Peacefully living in the city of Rising, a boy of seven lives in a most peculiar state. He is half-human, half-lupus - a wolf-like race of humanoids. He struggles to live normally with his peers, family, friends, and strangers. But the world around him won't let him live in peace.

Meanwhile, the king of Rising has finally returned to the city, after several months of absence. All is unwell; the hidden truth is that the king only has three years left to live. Moreover, he has no descendants or close relatives. The question is raised, what will happen to "The Right of the Ruler"?
