Over the past few years I have written a number of church songs for children and a few plays. And more often than not the initiative to write these items has not come from me , but it is at a request from others. For a case in point, several years ago my wife, Jeanne, was teaching third grade. She asked me if I would come and sit in the class. It seems that there were two boys that were causing some distractions. She was quick to let me know that these were not bad boys, they were just a little squirrely. My wife has always been a great help to me. She sandpapers (gently), the rough corners of my ways and tells me when my manner is too rough, or my tone is too harsh. In this and other ways, she has helped me immensely. Plus, in my job as a credit manager, I had to travel a lot. And I give her credit for the way our three daughters have turned out. We thank for Lord for our three daughters and their families. The Lord has really blessed. Anyway, getting back to Sunday School, I went one Sunday, and years later, I was still there. The boys were doing better and I had lots of fun. Next Jeanne said another problem was that she liked the lessons she had outlined in the Sunday School, but she felt the songs in the book were not always appropriate to the lesson and were hard to sing. She knew I had dabbled in writing a few children's ditties, so soon she would give me the topic for the following week and I'd write song for it. The kids liked the songs and I had a grand time doing it.Soon it became: Someone wants Christmas skit, ask Gary. The senior pastor wants an elaborate Christmas pageant, ask Gary. And the nice things about it was I didn't have to feel guilty about pushing my work, someone else suggested it. I can tell you that the three plays we are listing here have all been performed before audiences and the children and adults have enjoyed them very much. It is my prayer that the Lord will continue to bless them and you to His honor.
