David R Christensen

From the seventh grade on, David R. Christensen knew he would one day make a living as an engineer. He took every drafting class junior high and high school offered. He began his engineering education at the University of Alaska and finished at Brigham Young University.

It was during his senior year in high school that he was first challenged to write something meaningful. English required a term paper. His was a fourteen-page report about the connection between Edward Fitzgerald and Omar Khayyam. A few years later, he was assigned to choose ten topics from a list of about fifty and write a paragraph about each. He wove more than a dozen of these topics into a short story. Later he wrote a 23 page thesis entitled Earthquake-Resistant Structural Design.

David has two sisters, each of which loved to read and to write. They both won college-level contests with their plays, many of which were produced and performed not only at college but around the country.

From their example, David developed an interest in writing fiction. It was from the influence of his younger sister, Connie A. Walker (read The Spire of Kylet and Timmy and the K’nick K’nocker Ring) that he learned to love reading children’s books.

In his early thirties, David had his first book idea, an idea that passed his criteria for publication. After retiring from a career in engineering, his first book, Tivoli’s Christmas, was published in 2008. The following year, 2009, The Mystery of the Grinning Buddha was published. In July of 2010 The Mystery of the Ugly Bottle will be put in print. And in 2011, look forward to The Mystery of the Haunted Lighthouse. The setting for The Millerville Mysteries is eastern Kansas, in a fictional town called Millerville. Parts of this town were taken from Kansas city, Bonner Springs, and Oskaloosa.

David was born in Idaho, reared in Kansas, finished high school and began college in Alaska. After a four-year hitch in the navy, he completed his college education in Utah, where he remained to help care for his widowed mother.

David keeps a three-ring-binder filled with all his book ideas. He smiles when he realizes that if he could have four book titles published each year for the rest of his life, dozens of his book ideas would remain unwritten.
